Location: Yorkshire neighborhood, Charlotte, NC
Size: 11,600 SQFT of renovateD Space / 39,300 sqft of additional space
Client: Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
Story: SINCE MOVING INTO THEIR BUILDING IN 2002, GORDON-CONWELL THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY CONTINUES TO GROW, PLACING GREATER DEMANDS ON THEIR SPACE.
To address spatial demands, we were hired to design a simple classroom addition on a pre-established addition pad. After meeting with all the stakeholders and students, we determined an entirely new vision was needed for the campus – one with multiple opportunities for student-to-student and student-to-professor interaction outside of the classroom. Existing wraparound parking was removed to incorporate an oasis-like courtyard environment around which many of the interior spaces are oriented.
