Jervay Place

Location: Wilmington, NC

Size: 106 units / 17 Single Family Homes (Dove Meadows)

Client: Wilmington Housing Authority

Story: JERVAY PLACE WAS A MULTI-SITE NEIGHBORHOOD REVITALIZATION EFFORT CAPITALIZING ON U.S. Housing And Urban Development HOPE VI GRANT FUNDS AWARDED IN 1996.

The project includes approximately 13 acres and four city blocks. The Phase I effort consisted primarily of a pair of symmetrical two-story crescent-shaped buildings, 12 different single-family homes, and a variety of multi-family housing options.

The single-family homes were included in the master plan to strengthen the single family street grid of the neighborhood and to buffer the impact of the larger, denser multi-family buildings. The crescent-shaped buildings, with their sweeping front facades, provide a sophisticated solution to the center of the development. The resulting units, a combination of 2-and-3-bedroom flats and townhomes, open their front doors and second-floor balconies towards the spacious lawns, offering a play space for children in the community.
